Scanner Index Telegram Faults on the Tilt Tray and Crossbelt sorters

CSC3:

ICW:

Environment

Tilt Tray Sorter (S2000, S3000, TTMD) (CSC3, CSC5, ICW)

Crossbelt Sorter (CB4000) (ICW)

Answer/Solution

Information:

The PLC/MC sends an index telegram to the scanner along with the trigger command and expects a code telegram in return, which translates to good-read, no-read, multi-read, etc.

Root Cause:

'No index telegram' fault occurs when the PLC/MC sends the scanner an index telegram and does not receive a code telegram back.

'Index already in use' or 'Idx tlg timing failure' fault occurs when the scanner sends or receives the telegram late.

Fix:

The issue is either directly related to the scanner or its communication to the PLC/MC.

- Power cycle the scanner and check proper wiring connections.

- Contact scanner company and have them check for network/latency issues.

- Replace Scanner and cables.

New scanners can have timeout issues causing the index telegram faults, if not configured properly. The timeout can be increased to resolve it.

NOTE: If the 'No index telegram received' alarms only occur during sorter stop/start, they are insignificant and can be ignored, as the time frame within which the scanner needs to receive the index telegram will not be sufficient when sorter is not in production speed.
