Answer/Solution

The drive uses the motor nameplate data that is programmed in menu 1.4 motor control menu to test the motor and cables and fine tune the motor control algorithm.   This will result in a better model of the motor in the drive and give tighter speed/torque control.

NOTE: An auto-tune is not needed for most applications, and a bad auto-tune (because of a loose connection or a warm motor) can cause more problems than it's worth.  We suggest doing an Auto-tune if it is a high performance application requiring low speed torque or closed loop control. For instance, high speed merge or gap optimizer.

Unlike other VFDs, the motor will not turn while an auto-tune is being done, so there is no need to un-couple the motor from the load.

Autotuning is performed by parameter 'tun'. Set parameters in drive. After parameters are set press menu button on drive and go to  [Complete settings] > [Motor parameters] >  [Motor data] >  [Motor tune] > [TUN]
Select yes  [Do tune].
Auto-tuning is performed immediate if possible, then the parameter automatically changes to [No action] (nO). If the drive state does not allow the tune operation immediately, the parameter changes to [No] (nO) and the operation must be done again.

Note: For autotuning, drive should be in cool state.
